I mean why try to line targets up to Impale them once or twice then back up and repeat, when you can just Fend and monsters will surround you and increase your damage? Piercing would be interesting, but I think the hitting multiple targets roll is already fulfilled by Fend and I don’t think it would incentivize Impale usage very much. I think removing the always hit and giving it a normal attack speed is a bland solution, it’d just become the amazon version of Concentrate. How would enabling Impale to crit be “repeating the same mistake on purpose”? It still wouldn’t be anywhere close to as powerful as Smite because of how slow it is, Jab would still be better for crushing blow procs due to its faster speed. They shouldn’t resort to making things like smite as first choice to improve skills, much better and easier to balance if they let impale pierce and crit instead of always hits and give it a normal attack speed. Why would the repeat the same mistake on purpose. It’s doubtful that we’ll see any nerfs in D2R as well. It wasn’t really a fast fix, seems it was fixed sometime in January around 3 months after D2R released. Smite should be tone down, they made dragon talon like smite by accident and nerf that as soon as they could. I think it’s fast enough after it was sped up in 2.4, no further speed increases needed.ĭragon Talon was bugged for a while to always hit. Fast attacking always hit melee skills is op as we can see from smite. The true downside is the attack speed nerf, which it needs. Indestructible is a rare affix especially on spears and javelins, but that’s besides the point since I’m not talking about the durability degradation in this post. The weapon destruction “down side” could be completely negated with an indestructible weapon so I wouldn’t call it much of a down side. Smite is the one and only instance of an always hit skill before 2.4, I don’t think it can really be considered precedent in this case. It’s in line with smite for melee attacks that always hit but can’t crit.
